[ annabeth looks over the little sprout, with all the care literally and metaphorically glowing around it, and feels a surge of affection for percy beside her. beyond the simple fact of her love for olives, there are a lot of connotations for olive trees in concept for the pair of them, combined with the fact that he's apparently been working on magic in secret for months - ]
[ her eyes well up against her will and she throws herself at him in a hug. she wraps her arms around him tightly and buries her face in his neck, letting out a startled but joyful laugh with the rush of emotions she can feel ping-ponging around her body. ]
[ voice muffled, it takes her a few long moments to finally say something from where she continues to hide her face. ]
[ He's grinning, his voice a little muffled by Annabeth's curls in his face as he returns the hug with about as much enthusiasm, arms winding around her tightly, bodies pressed against each other so that he can very faintly feel the beat of her heart pounding against his own.
Better than growing a tree and using magic and not screwing it all up, it's Annabeth's reaction to it that has him feeling over the moon, like he just made a perfect score on the hardest exam in math class, or like he just kicked Zeus' ass again.
Either way, he's not in any rush to pull back from her embrace. ]
[ it could have been the ugliest, half dying tree, and annabeth would still love it, just because of what it means for his effort, for the existence of the tree itself. ]
[ she's not going to cry over a tree!! except she totally is. luckily she remains hidden in his arms, and they're happy tears, at least. maybe it's the implied longevity of it, even if they go home tomorrow or in a few months or in a year - there is something very permanent to the growth of a tree. an olive one, too. ]
[ she does not want to let go of him either, so maybe they'll just stay there for a while, hugging next to her olive tree, but there are far worse places to be. in fact, this might be one of the better ones to be. ]
